Aversion and compassion are opposites. If we can develop a mind of love then aversion will naturally wane. Emotions are not to be controlled; they are to be channeled. When aversion rises and it's impossible to produce compassion or to transform it into compassion, by reciting the Buddha's name or a mantra we can redirect our emotion or divert our aversion to the recitation, thereby reducing our hatred. As a more active way we should develop a mind of love and compassion in interacting with people and things, by reviewing and reflecting our bodily, verbal, and mental actions at all time.
