Buddhism teaches that there are ten realms for living beings, consisting of the Four Dharma Realms of Sages and the Six Unenlightened Realms, depending on their states of mind. We're afraid of ending up somewhere bad but don't realize that we end up somewhere bad because we ourselves haven't prepared well enough to go to good places, that is, we haven't created good causes. Instead of worrying about ending up in an evil path we should aspire rebirth in the Buddha's Pure Land, where we can practice diligently. And then we come back to the human world to deliver sentient beings. While doing so, we're also repaying the karmic debts that we owed to many people.
